
§ Dr. R. Scott Allen comes to 'PVA well grounded in the arts. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Texas State University with an emphasis on directing. From Sam Houston State University, Scott has earned his Master's and Doctorate in Educational Administration. Before coming to HSPVA, Scott was the principal at Mildred Jenkins Elementary School in the Spring ISD and he was an assistant principal at Lakeland Elementary School with the Humble ISD. Scott's teaching experiences, with a focus on teaching speech and English and directing theatre were shared between Hays High School (Hays Consolidated ISD), Calallen High School (Calallen ISD), and Humble High School (Humble ISD).
Scott's passion has always been the theatre first even though he filled his high school years with concert and marching band, debate, speech and choir. Specifically he focused on stage managing and directing while at Texas State and these passions resulted in his thesis project - directing a production of The Shadow Box. During his years of teaching high school, Scott spent two summers working in theatre in New York City. The highlight of this time was the opportunity to stage manage an off-Broadway production of August Strindberg's The Father.

Scott is an avid reader and traveler. He ran the Houston Marathon in 2008. While Scott enjoys the variety present in Houston's arts community, he is a staunch supporter of the many theatre companies throughout the city. Bear, Scott's Golden Retriever, provides the daily respite from this principal's diverse schedule.
